Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born to British parents Jacqueline Luesby, a lawyer, and Chris Watson, a teacher, in Paris, France. When she was five, she moved to Oxfordshire, where she attended Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma was aware that she wanted to be an actor and for a long period of years she was trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school in which she learned about dancing, singing and acting. She was a stagecoach performer and had taken the role of lead in various Stagecoach productions. In 1999 the casting process began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) which was the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was approached by casting agents by her Oxford theatre instructor. After eight consecutive auditions, David Heyman informed Emma and Rupert Grint that they were cast as Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. Emma's first appearance on screen in cinema was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). The film set records for opening-day and weekend sales and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film was praised by critics as well as the performance of its actors who were just starting out. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper with a substantial readership, described her performance as "admirable". In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in the film. She was awarded the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an Film. Film. Emma rose to fame after the success of the first film in the franchise. Hermione Granger was her role for almost 10 years in the Harry Potter films.
